I'm 62 and had rny in April and am down 50 pounds. My doctor did not have
an age limit and is soon to operate on a 66 year old. He did tell me that
some insurance companies will not approve over the age of 60. Judy

No 50 is certinally young enough. My surgeon has patients over 65. But you
need to be totally evaluated to see surgery can be done safely. One lady
said she would rather have one year tat normal weight than 6 at MO. She was
65 at the time of surgery

I was 51 when I had my open RNY last November. I am down 130# and feel
great. My surgeon accepts older patients as well. Having shed 130# has
made me feel much younger and I have sooooo much more energy.

The things that matter in a successful surgery is Basic health, Skill of
surgeon, adherence to docs instructions and luck. I communicate with so
many over 50's and we are doing well.

I was 54 at the time of my surgery, 26 months ago, and my husband was 57
when he had his RNY last year. Our surgeon routinely accepts patients up
to age 65, then considers patients older than 65 on an individual basis.
Our insurance providers (CIGNA and Acordia National) approved the surgeries
without any discussion regarding age. Good luck!

I was 57 last Dec. when I had my Open DS. No complications at all and down
108 lbs. I feel 20+ years younger and love my "new" life. As
long as all your pre-op tests are OK, your age should make little
difference with most surgeons. Hershey Medical Center in PA. has a limit
of 55. That's the only one like that I know about.
