Question:
Is it possible to have female surgery the same time as wls?

I just found out I had endometreosis and it was recommended I have a total hysterectomy. Ovaries, uterus, tubes....everything. I am TOTALLY ok with this since I have my family and also have been in a lot of discomfort from my ovaries. Is it possible to have this done the same time as WLS? I am not sure I could go threw 2 major surgeries within a few months of each other. I am planning on asking my WLS surgeon about this, but would love some views on this.....Thanks in advance!!    — lesleeloo (posted on April 22, 2002)

Leslie, I would ask the doctor, but I have heard of many people having more than one thing done at the same time with WLS. My doctor says when he opens up his patients, he "checks" things out so that if something needs to be taken care of, he only has to be in once. Hope that helps, but ask just to be sure!

This question was asked of my surgeon during our consultation class. He said that he has done a hysterectomy before along with WLS. I would agree that one recovery would be better. Shelley

I had two tumours removed from my womb at the same time as WLS. It made me uber sore and my 'recovery' was a little longer than most, but I had no other side effects and a normal period within about 3 weeks of surgery.

HI LESLIE I HAD YOUR SAME PROBLEM, MY GASTRIC BYPASS DOCTOR WANTED TO HAVE ME HAVE BOTH SURGERY AT ONE TIME. BOY AM I GLAD THAT I DID NOT HAVE BOTH AT THE SAME TIME I HAD MY GASTRIC BYPASS IN DEC WHICH WAS PAINFUL AND I HAD SOME PROBLEMS, I WAS GLAD I WAITED TO HAVE MY HYSTERECTOMY TWO MONTS LATER, I REALLY DON'T THINK I COULD HAVE TAKEN THE PAIN FROM BOTH AT ONE TIME. ALSO THE RECOVERY TIME WOULD HAVE BEEN TWO LONG DOING ONE AT A TIME WORKED OUT BEST FOR ME.

I had my stomach stapled 10 years ago and when the Dr did it he also took out a 10 pound ovarian cyst which we named Clyde. It took me a little longer to heal and I was in more pain than someone who just had the bariatric surgery but all in all it was really worth it to me. Best of luck!
