Question:
Three months post-op and I get pain from eating the first bite or two. Today, I had
no breakfast, but ate half a protein bar during the morning. Lunch--two bites of food and then pain. Anyone have this problem or any recommendation? — Mary N. (posted on March 14, 2002)

hi....just a few ideas thrown your way...
maybe your throat etc is to dry for the bar to go down smoothly possibly
take smaller bites or just before you eat di what i do and exchange the
last glass of water pre dinner from cold water that tightens the throat to
warm water i find that my throat is more relaxed as the first few bites are
hell for me and tried to soidier on nut couldnt then i tried the warm water
and it helped...
hope it helps you to....

Mary,
I am only 5 weeks out but had the same problem for several weeks. Every
bite or drink brought the pain in the chest. Eventually I was able to eat
2 or 3 bites before I felt the pain. I think its just a matter of my pouch
healing. But by 3 months I would think that that would be subsiding. My
doctor once suggested that bacteria in the pouch or an ulcer could cause it
and that if mine didn't clear up, he may want to prescribe some
anti-biotics. Check with your doctor.
