Question:
I am 5 weeks post-op, is it normal to feel bad after every meal for about and hour?

I feel bad, ie. lethargic, nauseous, just gross, after I eat, regardless of what I'm eating. I just don't feel right which is causing me to not eat much at all. I have lost 27 pounds so far but lost this in the first 3 weeks and haven't lost any these last 2 weeks. I'm confused, any encouragement would be appreciated.    — Terri L. I found that that feeling gradually got better and then disappeared for the most part after the first 2-3 months. However, I also realized that even though I was eating much less than before the surgery, I was still having a tendency to eat too fast and take bites that were too big. My surgeon suggests that his post-ops use an infant feeding spoon during the first weeks, so that they can have a better idea of the "correct" size of their bite-portions. When I did that, and slowed down, the "yucky" feelings were much better. I am now almost 2 years post-op, and the only time I feel bad now is when I have "forgotten the rules" and have eaten too much, too fast. Best wishes!

I feel the same way if I eat too fast or eat too much. It helps to cut your food in to tiny bite size portions. Also, do you weigh your food? You can buy a food scale at any wal-mart type store and they are really cheap. I paid $4.00 for mine. While you are at the store, buy your self a cocktail fork and a baby spoon. They force you to eat small portions. Put your fork or spoon down on your plate between bites. This will make you eat slower. It is a painful lesson to learn. You will feel sooooo much better if you eat tiny bites and eat slowly.

You didn't say how much food of what kind you are putting into what size pouch. If your pouch was 1 oz, then you probably will be most comfy putting no more than 2 oz in it of solid food. But eating a tiny meal every 2-3 hours. How does water taste?

I am 7 weeks post-op. I felt yucky after I ate too, but I LEARNED that i was eating too much, not chewing, and eating too fast!! So after some pain.... I eat really slow, chew, chew, chew, and try not to let myself really get toooooo hungry, because then I tend to eat my old way, fast, and inhaling food. Good Luck, It will get better.
