Question:
Anyone else had a problem with the smell?

I know some of us have a wacky sense of smell post op. I am 10 days out (lap RNY 1.2.02) and the smell of protein shakes is killing me. The taste is fine, but they smell like milk. I mix them with water, 4oz to be exact. I don't know what the issue is. Right now, I am taking one shake per day (@30 grams- I'm using my samples from Vitalady) and two doses of Cheramino, which has 15 grams in 2 Tbls. That is 60 grams a day, plus what I am eating. My doc has me on the soft diet, so I was thinking if I tossed some baby food bananas or something in the blender with the shake, it might cover the smell. Anyone have ideas on this?    — Tina P. Tina - stop drinking those nasty shakes! Ewwwwww!! I have the perfect solution. It is a product made my Worldwide Sport Nutrition, Extreme Pure Protein drinks. I picked up grape (ok), pina-colada (felt like i was licking an air freshener) and orange cream(man this stuff is TASTY) and didn't try fruit punch. Has ZERO sugar and 42 gm of protein. They look like gatorade, taste like gatorade and are a lot easier to stomach than natsy thick shakes!! Let me know if you need anything else - [email protected]

I just got Isopure vanilla from Vitalady, and although it tastes okay mixed with chocolate the smell is a big turn off. I usually just hold my nose, and try to get it down as quickly as possible. as for adding baby food, I don't think that will help much. I added Mandarin orange slices to try to make an Orange Julius type of drink. I mixed eggwhits with splenda in order to make that creamy whip like in real orange julius's. It tasted good, but it still had that bad smell.

Another solution to the shakes...Isopure Zero Carb Clear glass drinks. Look and taste like Crystal Light. I ordered the fruit punch. My friend loves the blue raspberry. I personally don't like the apple-melon. They also have grape and orange. they are expensive at GNC. I went to nathigh.com and ordered $100.00 worth of stuff and got FREE shipping. They also do price matching there...so if you know of a place where something you want is cheaper...they will match the price. 1 case of 12 bottles is 32.77 at nathigh.com and I also bought the Isopure powder for 26.50 for the 3lb canister...price matched to houstonbuyersclub.com. e mail any ?'s.

Tina, sure, some fruit might help on the smell issue. Or, try drinking it through a straw. That helped me a lot. Also, I find it much more palatable if it's ice cold. I had to LOL at some of the other responses... everyone likes different things... some of the things that other people like make me gag, and since everyone's so different on this, you're just going to have keep trying stuff until you find one you like. <p>I live close enough to Vitalady to have driven to her house for a protein tasting, and it's so helpful to have Michelle mixing up lots of different ones to try. Everyone had different reactions to each one. Keep trying different samples from her supply. She carries almost all of the different protein powders and it's quite likely you'll find one that tastes AND smells good to you. Good luck!
