Question:
How can a support group be started?
I live 3hrs from the nearest support group and would like to attend one. How can one be started closer to where I live? — Mary B. (posted on December 12, 2001)

Hi! What I would do is go to the "find peers" page of this site
and look for people who are in or near your town that have had or are going
to have the surgery. Email them and see if they would be interested in
starting a support group. If you get enough positive responses, then you
will have to figure out where and when to have them. Maybe you will want to
ask this in the emails you send. If there is a hospital near you , you may
want to call them and find out if they have an auditorium or something like
that where you could hold support group meetings for gastric bypass
patients. Another option is your local library. They sometimes have rooms
to use for meetings.......OR you could always take turns at each members
houses.....Good Luck to you!

My surgeon is talking about startinone on the net, by using web cams and
such. A personal local one is better, socializing is important.
