Question:
I am almost 7 weeks post op. In the last few days I have been craving junk
I have done very good about trying to eat good and protein first. I have lost 40 lbs. so far. HOWEVER, in the last few days I have been chewing food I shouldn't eat to get the taste and spitting it out. I feel so gross, is there something wrong with me? — [Anonymous] (posted on December 6, 2001)

If you are trying to get your protein via food, you are getting 20-50% of
what you are eating. If you can do your basic 60g in supps, you will find
your cravings vastly diminished, as long as you don't up your sugar with
it. The long term effect of not enough protein (the base food we need)
will be uncontrollable hungries that shoot off in all directions.

As for chewing something and then spitting it out, I do that with meat in
order for me to enjoy the juices and the flavor. Sometimes I just don't
feel like actually eating the meat so I completely understand. I do this
very discretely so no ones noticed.

LOL! I don't think you are doing anything that most of us others didn't do
when we were newly post-op! I love meat, and it was so hard cooking for
the rest of my family knowing that I wouldn't be able to eat any of what I
was cooking. My family got used to seeing me take a bite and chew, chew,
chew, then go to the trash can and spit, spit, spit!!! Tactfully, of
course. My mom thought it was hilarious, heh!
