Question:
Has anyone attempted to get life insurance after having WLS?
Did you report the WLS and did you have any problems? Is it harder to get approved before or after the surgery? — Erin H. (posted on August 24, 2001)

I'm a life insurance agent, and frankly this has never come up. I can say
though that morbid obesity is about one of the bigest red flags there is to
underwriters. Questions on a life insurance application usually only go
back 5 years in regard to surgery. So by the time the weight is off, 1-2
years, you'd probably be ok if there weren't other health factors.

I tried to get life insurance about 6 months after my bypass, and I was
told to try again after one year. They wouldn't insure me so soon after
major surgery.
