Question:
What are the benefits to a tummy tuck on the same day as WLS?
I will be having WLS open rny on Oct. 2nd. I would like to know if there is a benefit to doing the tummy tuck surgery along with the bypass. I already have quite a lot of skin hanging. — Barb W. (posted on August 19, 2001)

I had the adominoplasty with my open RNY two weeks ago and would do it that
way again in a minute. Breathing and walking are soooo much easier without
that large tummy hanging and even post op i could wipe myself whereas
before surgery i could barely do it without practically killing myself
(sorry for being graphic but it makes a big difference) I lost over seven
inches off my tummy with the abdominoplasty. However your healing time will
be longer, my incision is 33inches from hip to hip. i don't believe it
would have been less painful as most of my pain is up high near the
diagphragm where i was cut internally anyways.

I had open RNY and tummy tuck done on 5/1/01. My primary reason to have
the tummy tuck done was financial. I had to self pay and therefore was
trying to minimize my hospital costs and recovery time. I am very happy so
far with the results-I had 13 lbs. removed with the tummy tuck and my apron
is gone. My recovery time didn't seem to be lengthened much. However, I
don't know how it will be down the road as I continue to lose more
weight-will I have loose and sagging skin? I just decided to go for
it--$3500 extra now vs. $15,000 later + another recovery period. Wish I
could see into the future and tell you more. Good luck!
