Question:
Can anyone please help?? Drink too fast... stomach pain... And I just over sensitive
I posted a day or two ago, but didn't get a response, so I thought I would try again. Sunday night I ate dinner as I usually do and drank my water after (about 15 min's later) as I usually do. Instead of drinking out of my water bottle, I drank out of a glass. I don't know if I drank too much too fast or what, but I hurt. My stomache kind of hurt but my lower abdomen hurt even more. Not sharp pains. The next day it really was sore. It kind of subsided yesterday but last night was sore again. I called my surgeon, who is out on vacation. His nurse did not seem concerned at all. She really didn't say anything other than if I wanted her to she would say something to the doctor on call, but only if I wanted her to. Otherwise I could wait until the Dr. got back on Monday. The pain isn't unbearable- just uncomfortable. It was sore to the touch on Monday but not yesterday or today. I hear gurgling noises after I eat- don't remember them before. I wonder if I just drank too much too fast- pushed dinner out of my stomache too soon too fast. And am I now just over sensitive because I hurt it? Can any one help? — Cindy K. Sorry no responses to your first question. I posted one recently and only
got 3, one on of which quizzed me somewhat sternly as to why I categorized
my question in the particular category in which i did. Anyway, you did not
say how far post-op you are. I am 4 weeks post-op and get some tummy
gurgling, especially with water first thing in the morning. I say it feels
like my tummy is just waking up. I have never felt pain with water, but I
do usually try to sip it. I would also want to know what you had for dinner
that night? Was it something new to you? Too spicy? Too dense? It may have
been a food that did agree with you previously, but not on that day. You
are drinking up to about 30 minutes before eating, not drinking while
eating, and not drinking after eating for anywhere from 30-1 1/2 hours
right (that time after eating seems to vary on the website). Good Luck as
we learn our new bodies.

Hi Molly, thanks for answering. I am 6 months post op. Have never had a
problem drinking my water as long as I wait 15 minutes. I had a tomatoe and
three bites of steak- not new to me. I don't know what to think.

I have found that my low belly pain like that is gas. It is hard to
believe that a gas bubble can cause so much pain. Makes me feel sorry for
babies who have them in their tummy and cry. I would try a gas-x and see
if it helps.

So do you think I might just be over sensitive? This really has me scared-
that I may have "damaged" my stomache.

One reason you might have experienced the pain is becasue you should be
waiting at least 30 minutes to one hour after eating. Mostly because you
can wash the food out of the pouch too fast and then this causes grazing
habits. Or it can cause extreme pain that I have expreienced before also
because you are overfilling your pouch. It is very hard not to drink with
or after a meal. I have found that if I wait at least 30 min. I am okay.
I hope that this helps, this info is from my nutritionist.
