Question:
How long after I get Pacificare
Insurance should I wait before I try to get approval for Gastric Bypass,I have medi-cal right now and the Drs at UCDMC are giving me the run around, they told me there was a 2 year wait and then today a 3 year wait and a few weeks ago only waiting until February, they said if I had a different insurance or self-pay I could get in in Feb. Thta is discrimanting against the poor in my opinion. I don't really have the money to pay for health insurnace,But I need this so bad. and since Pacificare does cover the surgery,I guess I can pay a little over a $140 a month until I get approved. But this is so unfair for people who can't afford it to have to do. Any answers would be appreciated...Thanks! — Brandy P. (posted on June 26, 2001)

Hi, I have Pacificare HMO - and was approved within 3 weeks. My pcp wrote a
letter of request and I sent a two page letter outlining my weight from age
5 to recent & problems, pills I had taken, doctors names, OA, gastric
bubble, hypnosis, TOPS, weight watchers, deal a meal - the list goes on. I
had my surgery on Feb. 13th. Good luck to you.
