Question:
Should I go ahead with a consultation?
I live in Louisville, Kentucky and am under my husband's insurance. We have Humana KPP. His company has an exclusion for wls. I have researched this surgery and feel it is right for me. I am a teacher and have waived my isurance in the past for a flexible spending account. I will be able to pick up insurance next school year, but am debating whether or not to go ahead for a consultation with Dr. Shina's office(the doctor I have chosen). Will my husband's insurance pay for the consultation? Should I go ahead and try my current insurance even with the exclusion? I hate to wait until January of 2002 before I can even start. — Gina F. It couldn't hurt to have the consult(the way some offices are going it's
only going to get longer waiting for a consult). When my husbands policy
had the exclusion it was for any kind of weight related issues. They
wouldn't pay even for a consult. I went to an endocrinologist once to rule
out Cushings Disease and as a secondary she wrote obesity and the ins.
tried not to pay. I had to fight with them as I never saw her for any
weight issues. She wrote it down "just because I was". You need
to know your policy. Good luck and best wishes.
