Question:
I know NSAIDs are contraindicated in patients with wls but are there any exceptions?
I have fibromyalgia and degenerative disk disease. I'm looking for pain relief. I have seen Celebrex mentioned many times. Has anyone used it after their surgery and for how long? Thanks! — mrs.qtip (posted on February 19, 2001)

Jeanne, my surgeon allows Celebrex. I have heard that Vioxx is same type
medicine...but don't know for sure

I have used viox too. My Dr. told me no to long term steriods
BUT, with a knee injury, I could take some for a week. However,
the Viox worked great!

My surgeon prescribes Arthrotec as his only "allowable"
anti-inflammatory. It contains Cytotec, a drug that protects the stomach
lining. I have your same problems, and had been on strong
anti-inflammatory medications for years. The Arthrotec has worked
beautifully for me. Good luck!

Dear Jeanne: I have taken celebrex for a year and a half now. I switched
just after surgery. It seems to work okay. I take it for osteo arthritis.
I have to see a new PCP tomorrow (new insurance co.) and have been told
they do not use celebrex. I'm not sure what will happen. Good luck.
