Question:
Could this be some type of dumping??
For the last 7-10 days, I have been feeling kind of lightheaded on and off throughout the day, as well as getting periodic intense headaches, that go away almost as quickly as they come. This happens both when I am active, or laying on the sofa. Also, in the last few days I have had a lot of aches....not flu type aches, but like big time overdid it at the gym type aches...and I haven't been to the gym. I called the surgeons office...they told me to call my PCP. I called the PCP but she is on vacation, so they scheduled me to go in on Wednesday to see someone else. I am 13 1/2 weeks post op and down 59 lbs. My physcial activity has remained about the same...3 classes at the pool each week, and a little bit of walking and additional swimming. My food intake remains the same, I think I'm doing fine on the protein, but I do have a hard time getting in 64 oz of water a day (but my dr says I'm doing ok). The only thing I can think of is that I've been eating oranges...just little ones, and not even the whole orange...I just chew it and throw out the fibery part. Do you suppose this could be some type of dumping?? Sorry this is so long....I just don't expect my visit to a dr that I don't know to be very helpful. Thanks for any suggestions!! — tlg6056 (posted on January 22, 2001)

Just intuition talking here. Did you used to drink coffee/sodas, etc with
caffeine, the symptoms sound like caffeine withdrawal.

****RESPONSE TO ABOVE POST**** I am not a coffee drinker. I did
occassionally have a diet pepsi/diet coke, but wouldn't say I was addicted.
I have actually had a couple of cans (flattened) since surgery as
well....it doesn't taste nearly as good. Anyway, I guess my point is that
I don't think I was addicted (don't we all say that!!), but I don't think
so, and why suddenly now...after all these weeks??

Hi There, I have been having almost identical symptoms the past few days,
or even more than a week now. Intense headaches so bad I have to lay down.
The only thing I think of is that my kids have been sick on and off and my
sinuses are probably acting up. There are alot of illnesses and viruses
going around. My guess is that it's probably not anything to do with
withdrawels at this stage. I had sugar withdrawels for about 3-4 weeks
after surgery, much after that is pretty unlikely. I am 17 weeks post-op. I
went to the Dr. the other day and he also reassured me that it was probably
not surgery related in any way, that it was probably just a virus. But you
should absolutely follow up with your Dr. anyway just to be sure. Good
Luck!!

Are you getting in 60g minimum protein SUPPLEMENT each day? Although you
should certainly check with your doctor about the lightheadedness, you can
be catabolic at this stage--destroying your muscle--- and that would
certainly expalin your aching muscles, as well as that fuzzy feeling. It's
past time fo you to get labs done anyway, so you should know shortly the
exact element that is missing or coming up short when you compare today's
results to your pre-ops.
