Question:
Has anyone had a problem with alcohol after surgery?
I am about 1 1/2 post op RYN. I have very good with weight loss as well as eating a good diet (lost 108 to date from 290. One problem...Drinking affects me alot more than before. I am afraid that I am going to develop a drinking problem. Has anyone dealt with this? — lucia R. (posted on December 13, 2000)

I am six months post-op. I have not had any drinks until last week when I
was on a cruise. I had a few drinks most days I was there. The alcohol
effected me alot quicker than it once did, and I did not dump with the
drinks, which I certainly thought I would. This is something I will have
to watch out for...I will not make a habit out of drinking. Good luck.

Good question! My surgeon STRONGLY warns his patients that alcohol will
affect us 3 TIMES what it did before surgery. So, be careful or else avoid
alcohol completely. Besides, it is empty calories and who needs that?!
Best wishes!

Dear Lucia, I had a problem with alcohol the first year after surgery with
it affecting me so quickly but now, after about 19 months it seems to have
faded. Of course, I drink very very seldom but it doesn't seem to affect
me anymore than it originally did now as I have always had a low tolerance
for alcohol anyway. Hope this helps.

It's real easy, don't drink. Alcohol is not necessary for life. Get some
help, if you can't quit. I don't mean to be flippant but why would you
keep doing something that is scaring you???????????
