rny couples
Are there any other husband/wife couples that have had this done? — Sandy W. (posted on June 23, 2000)

I know my surgeon has done at least one husband and wife and a couple of
mother/daughter groups. Nearly all his patients are available via email on
his website -- www.clos.net.

My husband and I are a year apart. I'm 10/94, 262 to 112#. He's 10/95,
285 to 175#. There are DOZENS of us in our local support groups. Some a
month apart, some a week apaart, some done on the smae day.... Sometimes
SHE went first, sometimes HE went first. They pull together on their
post-op nutrition plans, helping each other out to get their protein in,
their sugars out, holding the volume of food down! It's GREAT!

My husband just had his 2 week check-up for his Open RNY today and I am
scheduled to have the same on the 19th of July. This is just one more
thing that we are going to be able to share. The lady who first encouraged
me to consider WLS had hers the 15th of May and her husband had it a couple
years ago. They plan on leading a support group together in their area.
Feel free to e-mail me anytime.

Hi...my husband Rob and I are both having our surgery on Nov. 14 (NEXT
WEEK)!! I was little concerned, I got depressed the other night and
started crying "who is going to take care of me"....(I am a big
baby)...but the inlaws will be staying with us to help out for the first
week. I am at 253 now, Rob is 404. We are very excited, and I am so happy
to be sharing this "rebirth" with my soulmate.

My husband and I are 2 1/2 weeks post op. It was great having to go to all
of our appoints together. If we had different dates it would have been
like taking each test twice. We shared the same room at the hospital. My
grown children only have to go through with this once. They stayed with us
for a week. They come by on weekends. It was a great dicission, but only
if you have support.

My husband and I are both waiting insurance approval. He will be having
his first and I will follow 4-8 weeks later depending on his progress. Our
surgeon, Dr. Prystowsky, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, will not
do any family members together on the same day as a precaution for
complications one or both might have. We have gone through the entire
process together though, sleep studies on the same night, pulmonary
function tests on the same day, and all psych and dietition appointments
together. We are most fortunate to have each other.

Tanya: If we didn't have grown children to take care of us post op, I
definitely would have done it with your timing.
