Question:
I am a muslim considering surgery. Does any one know the islamic view of this?
any monotheistic religious perspective would be appreciated. Generally speaking my understanding is that if something is deemed "medically necessary" then it is OK. Are there any muslims who have had WLS? Thanks. — Becky H. (posted on May 23, 2000)

Hi I am not muslim but I am married to one. I just had the surgery six
weeks ago. I think you should talk to your husband (if married) and/or Iman
about having the surgery. If they don't understand have the doctor to talk
to your husband to ease his mind about. I don't regret having the surgery
because it was interfering with my health. So far I've lost 40lbs. Also it
would depend on why you would want to have the surgery. The reason why I
question it is because I don't know if you are the traditional muslim where
you have to cover up or modern muslim where they don't have to cover up.
But personally it shouldn't matter. If you want to do it, I think you
should do. You won't regret it.

Assalamu Alaikum
I am Muslim and I had Lap bpds march 22,2001 My father is a wise man and he
said that it was nothing wrong with it and that it is our job to mantainour
health and exercise. I got this to improve my help I cover most of the time
but I want to have more children and get married so he said that would help
for my health and to be attractive to my husband and have more kids. He
said he knew of a sister who had it and said the Imam said nothing was
wrong. I also had a Muslim docter perform my surgery and knew of how to
approach me and with me being covered so that helped and I trusted him more
and knew Allah(swt)would watch over me and him and he will watch over you
InshaAllah. Good luck and keep In touch if you like. I have lost 45lbs in 2
months. I can eat anything I want I am doing fine.
