Question:
What if I don't walk?
I also wanted to know how long should I walk a day? Is walking around the house for a 1/2 hour good? — [Anonymous] (posted on May 19, 2000)

Hello, Any walking you do is going to acelerate your weight loss. It is
also very good for your heart! Walking just 20-30 minutes at a moderate
pace will healp and does a lot of good! Hope this helps!

Walking is a big way to prevent blood clots. You have to keep moving - you
cannot be sedentary. In fact they will have you up and walking your first
day in the hospital. No, it's not necessary to be a marathon runner. If
you are not accustomed to walking around at all, do 5 minutes per day until
you can increase it at a pace you are comfortable with. Talk to your
doctor and nutritionist. They can set up a custom program for you. Good
luck!

When I saw my surgeon fro the initial consultation he stress
the importance of walking post-op. He said that he can always
tell the people who did walk from those who didn't because
the walkers will have lost twice as much weight by their 6-
week check up and will feel like a kid again. Those who
didn't walk will just be starting to feel good by 6 weeks.

any activity at all counts. I could walk a minute when I first got home,
and I had a visiting physical therapist for 6 wks. I complained and moaned
and groaned, but he paid no attention to me at all. He simply kept telling
me that it wasn't going to kill me. It didn't. At the end of the 6 wks.,
he had me walking 30 minutes a clip. I think that it probably was a big
factor in my weight loss so far-102lbs since 1/10/00.

Well walking helps you lose weight, tones your muscles and helps prevent
blood clots. It also makes you
breath better, preventing pneumonias.
