Question:
eating
I am having an open gastric bypass with gall bladder removal on 10-21 and all the hospital said was no food or drinks after midnight, can I expect an enema?? — Kimberly B. (posted on October 17, 1999)

I did not have one, nor did my sister when she had her surgery.
I did have to take a laxative the day before surgery. I also
stopped eating at 10 p.m. on Saturday night, and my surgery
was scheduled for 12:00 noon on Monday.. I was definitely
empty! Good luck to you! I doubt you will have an enema.

Hello,
No, you won't be subjected to an enema. For most of us, we're just NPO
after midnite the night before and that's it. Hope this info helps.

Dear Kimberly,
Thats a question for your Dr. Although I was told not to eat after
midnight and did not have an enema your Dr. may require one. Good Luck on
your surgery.

Thankfully, those days are over. Now my surgeon prescribes
an oral substance to clean out the intestines, along with no food
after midnite. Not to worry!!!

Kimberly - My surgery was May 6th, 1999. No emema's. Don't eat anything
after midnight. Try to have bowel movement prior to day of surgery, if you
can. I never had any trouble in this area. Much luck to you and this will
be one of the best things you have ever done for yourself!!! Linda
