Question:
Severe Asthma and Insulin Dependent Diabetes
Has any one with these conditions had the RNY? I am concerned that having both these conditions will make me a less desirable candidate for surgery. Thanks, Kathy — Kathy W. (posted on May 1, 1999)

FROM ALL THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE RNY SURG. IS SUPPOSED TO
HELP YOU IN BOTH OF THESE CASES AND I THINK IT MAKES
YOUR SURGERY EVEN MORE NEEDED.

Do you realize that with the right procedure, you might actually GET RID OF
these? I had severe sleep apnea, mild asthma and 2 diabetic parents. I
still have the parents, but all else is HISTORY! Scary, I know. BUt as
long as your doc knows your condition, he will take the proper steps to
protect you. Good luck!

I did not have diabetes but I have had asthma all my life. I had no
problems and in fact have greatly improved with my asthma. I am from
Houston and I had VBG not RNY.
