Question:
Anyone had problems with Fosamax or Actonel for osteoperosis?
I'm concerned about these medications giving me stomach problems. — Loretta E. (posted on March 3, 2005)

I havent tried either; but was just diagonised with ostepenia - doctor
would not give me the 'pill' form since one they are time released, and two
she didnt think they would absorb and how my tummy would react. She
prescripted one that is in nasal form.

I just asked the surgeon about this the other day at my 1 year visit since
I may have to start Fosomax in the near future and he said I would have to
go on something like prevacid or prilosec to keep from getting an ulcer.

Actonel is more GI friendly. I use the weekly version. I used the
Miacalcin (spray) first and put this off for 4 years. But there was such a
radical improvement in my bone mass during last year that I'm sorry I
waited. The problem apparently wouldn't be in the pouch, but in the
esophagus and you'd know it immediately. Hopefully, your doc will give you
samples. I do have friends who were unable to take it, normies and WLS,
but I can. Me, with 30 yr history of ulcer, can't touch any other
meds........ but this one works for me.
