I just had my check up and my cholesterol levels are to low. Total cholesterol is 112, TG 40 and almost all my lipids are low. Does any one else have this problem? Any advice? — maureenmosti (posted on February 23, 2004)

Are you exercising? My doc. has told me that exercise plays a big role in
cholesterol, but I didn't know that it could be too low.

Do you follow a low fat diet? Cholesterol is made from fatty acids, we need
a certain amount of fat in our diet for a whole lot of different things.
With the RNY and/or DS surgeries we do malabsorb some of the fat we eat.
Try eating more healthy fat (try this site:

i had the old jib bypass that is no longer done in 1981. before I had it
reversed in 2002 my total cholesterol never got above 82. When I mentioned
that to my present wls, he said it is common to have low cholesterol with
the old surgeries but i hadn't heard of it with this new rny but it makes
sense to me and I am told by several doctors that it is nothing to worry
about.

P.S. I ate all kinds of high fat foods with the other surgery. There was
no restriction like our small pouches just the malabsorption part. Still
had the low cholesterol.
