Question:
Has anyone know the cost of RNY surgery from Dr. Rutledge in Chattanooga, Tn,?
My insurance has denied payment and I will have to pay myself. I have seen a Dr. in Nashville and know their cost. Would like to know Dr. Rutledge in Chattanooga's cost/ — Carolyn W. (posted on November 7, 2003)

Hi Carolyn,
I'm sorry, I don't know Dr. Rutledge's costs. I can give you info about
going out of country, though. I had my surgery in Spain 16 months ago.
Everything all together (travel, surgery, labs, prescriptions, a week
staying on the Mediterranean, etc.) cost $15,800. If you want to know
more, just drop me an email - or you can check out www.bodybybaltasar.com

Why don't you just call their office and ask? I am sure they have had other
self pay patients and will know what the cost is. I am self pay as well,
and that is the first thing I asked my surgeons office when I called to
make my first appointment. You are better off finding out straight from
them as the prices may have changed or they could be mistaken. My surgery
is costing me $17,500 in Richmond, VA. I don't know what the prices are in
other parts of the US are.

I actually just called his office the other day because I found out the the
surgeon I consulted with, Dr. Vanderbilt, is no longer performing WLS. Dr.
Rutledge surgeon's fee is $4,500 and the hospital portion is approximately
$16,000. I was also told that his consult fee is $300.00. His office
staff is very friendly and will answer any questions you have regarding
self-pay. I'm in the process of an appeal with my insurance, so I know the
frustration you are having with getting WLS.

In addition to Dina's excellent surgeon, there is also Dr Marchesini in
Brazil. Total cost including travel would be <$10,000. His patient forum
is at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/DrMarchesini-DuodenalSwitch/
