Question:
Seeking information from others who are use the Gallery's Weight Loss Planner

Has anyone actually lost as much as the weight loss planner predicted for them when they inputted the information. I am starting at 5'9" tall and weigh 317 lbs currently. My goal weight is 147 lb, so that is about 106% of my excess weight. The weight loss planner numbers seem so unreal, for instance, losing 111 lbs in six months. Has anyone actually lost as much as the planner predicted? It has predicted that for me to reach my goal weight of 147, it will take 14 months. Could it really happen so fast? I am also looking for people in my same height and starting weight range that can give me an idea of their goals weights along with pants sizes and bust, waist and hip measurements. Thanks in advance!    — kristynush (posted on September 3, 2003)

Hi. I am 15 months out and at goal. The planner predicted I would reach my original goal, of 140 in 13 months and I reached it at around that time. I did find that I lagged behind a little in the weight the planner said I would lose up to the six month mark, after that I caught up and I lost more than it said I would per month. Don't worry too much about it. We all lose at our own pace! Take care. Mary LAP RNY 6/4/02, (272/135/140)

I find this calculator to be high. I started out at 5'9" 378 pounds. I will be 11 months postop next week and I am down 127 pounds. According to the gallery calculator I should be down 180 pounds. <p> I found this calculator in the Q & A library and it seems more on track to my weight loss http://clos.net/predict-wt-loss.htm I would compare the two for a better idea. I hope this helps.

If I depended on thatplanner, I would have given up by now. I am just over 3 mos out and about 20 below the planner. MaryLyn 5/21/03 -68

I lost much slower than that weight loss planner, but I still lost the weight. Don't listen to it! You'll only get discouraged. I think it's optimistic for alot of us.

I am about two months ahead of the weighloss planner. I was a lightweight to begin with, so it still surprises me every time I look at that planner and see I am ahead of the predictions! Barb - Open Proximal RNY 4/07/03 235/158/126 5'2

Sure, I think you can lose 147 pounds in 14 months. I've lost 156 in 11 1/2. I started out bigger than you though, so you might lose a bit slower. I have issues with the weight loss planner though. According to it, I'm on track to lose about 84% of my excess weight. I find that the planner is skewed towards losing very large amounts in the first few months, and it slows down a lot after 6 months with little to no loss in the last four months. So I've always been way behind the planner, but am starting to catch up as my weight loss has been steadier than it predicts. I never had a monthly loss over 26 pounds, but on the other hand, I was still losing 14 pounds a month at 7 months out. Don't regard the weight loss planner as any sort of Bible, it will drive you nuts!

Current size clothing pants size 12-13 shirts size 14-16, Bra size 36b . Hope this info helps, check out my pictures on my profile... Best of luck many hugs

Why are you trying to lose 106% of your excess weight? The statistics say that you are aiming a little high. My personal goal was to lose 100% of my excess body weight and I have consistently been about 2 months ahead of the planner. I am 7 1/2 months post op and have lost 85% of my excess weight to date. I am wanting plastics badly and am hoping to get the other 15% off in the next 8 weeks or so. I too aimed high and so far so good.

I am also wondering about the weight loss planner. I started at 5'11" and 330 pounds. It says if I should lose 100% of my excess weight I should weigh 165. First of all, I can't imagine weighing that little. I would be comfortable 10-15 pounds heavier than that. I am 8 weeks postop and it says I should be down 66 pounds, but I have been stuck at 45 pounds for the last 4 weeks. I feel like at this rate I will never reach goal. Gook luck to you!!
