Question:
Seeking Postops starting at 5'4

I just hit my three month mark and am down only 63 pounds. I was stuck on a plateau for almost three weeks but upped my excercise to 1 hour. My personal goal is 140--do you guys think this is realistic? I am nervous because I know the first 6 months is the biggest window of opportunity and now I only have 3 months left!    — katie E. katie..you have 12 to 18 months to lose the weight dont worry about just the first 6 mos. yes alot of people lose alot those first months but if you are a slow loser or a lightweight as they call us we will lose alot slower then most..but we will still get as thin just in a longer period of time...hang in there and do all you can for you..it will come off :) Edna

With a BMI of 43, you should certainly be able to get to 140 as a very realistic goal. I am 5'3 and you can go to my profile for a month to month loss. I'm sure many others will answer and tell you the same. 63 is very good for just 3 months. Plateaus will happen, for many of us all too frequently, but keep in mind that they don't last forever, and more importantly is whether you will continue to follow the pouch rules thru your 18 mo journey. If you do, eat right-lots of protein, lo carb and sugar, tons of water, and don't drink with or right after meals and EXERCISE regularly, you will reach your goal.

I think that is a very realistic goal. I'm 5'3" and started at 282 lbs. My surgery date was 9/12/02 and I have lost a total of 164 lbs so I'm now at 118 lbs. Keep up the exercise and I'm sure you will make it to goal in no time!!! Congratulations on the great loss so far!!!

Katie, it is very realistic! You will get there before you know it:) I lost rapidly my first 6 months, then at 7 -8 months hit a plateau then at 8 months I rapidly lost again. We all lose differently at different rates, but it will be gone before you know it:) Good Luck! 22 months Post op - 140 lbs Now 115 lbs

I am 5'4" and my LAP RNY was on August 28, 2002. I started at 255lbs and am currently at 140lbs. I have lost steadily every month and am still losing. My doctor would like me to be between the 125-145 for my height. Mostly at the lower end. I felt like I was a slow loser at many point over the past year, however; I wasn't. Your goal isn't unrealistic and is obtainable. You may continue to lose for 12-18 months after surgery. 63lbs in 3 months is fantastic!! That is better than I did. You'll do great!

I think 140 is a very realistic goal. Will you make it? Maybe, maybe not. I'm 5' 4 1/2" and was 314 the day I got home from the hospital. I am now almost 14 months out and I've lost 132 lbs. I'm at 182 right now. My personal goal all along has been 140. I haven't lost an ounce since July 12th (almost 2 months now). Have I stopped losing? I don't know. I'm sticking to my eating plan and increasing my exercising (as of this week) and hoping to drop a lb. or 2. I just got back from a week's travel and ate a lot and not so great for the last 7 days. I didn't gain even 1 pound. I was thrilled. Will I be unhappy if I don't lose any more weight? Once in a while probably. But I'm so happy at 182, size 14 that I could burst. Yes, I'm still striving for 140 and figure I've got another 6 months or so where I may still lose easier than later on. But 175, 170, 160, etc., anything lower than where I am is gravy as far as I'm concerned. Shoot for the 140 and I hope you make it.

Realist? Maybe if you are a lightweight. I was 319 and I'm 5'3 1/2. I got down to 158.75 for one day. (Dehydrated weight probally). I range from 162-164. I had hoped to get down to 129 or 130. (I weighed 123 in high school and was muscular and NOT slim at that weight).

Hi, I had RNY on Aug. 13, 2001 (2 yrs. post-op). I started at 5'4" 282 lbs. I now weigh and have maintained for over a year a weight in the range of 127-134. I wanted to be 115--but apparently this isn't a democracy :)

Katie: I'm at almost 8 months and down 70 lbs so I think your weight loss is fantastic. I don't know where you're starting from but you will be very happy with your loss as time goes on. Be patient and enjoy the great loss so far! You're doing so well!
