Question:
Has anyone post-op eaten at the Elvis Memphis Blues resturant
i am going with my kids and grandkids to Graceland in two weeks. We plan on having dinner at the Memphis Blues Resturant. I looked at the menu on the computer and everything is very expensive. It says the childs menu is for under ten only so asking to order from that is out of the question. Any suggestions? I thought i might order the Thai(sp) chicken salad. I love thai food. But I know I will only eat two or three bites. The Mc Donalds salads last three days or until I throw them out. I was thinking of staying at the hotel but I hate to miss the fun. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks. I am five months post-op — Delores S. (posted on June 7, 2003)

Pre-op we would go out, someone else would bring a "doggie bag
home" and I'd eat it. NOW post-op I bring the doggy bag home and
someone else eats it :).
Seriously there is no shame in taking what you can't eat home - or even...
<gack> - god forbid.... toss it.
Remember the surgery only fixes the huge hole in our gut - not the huge
hole in our head :).

Delores - if the hotel that you are staying at doesn't normally have a
mini-fridge in the room, call the hotel and ask them to add it to your
reservation. They may charge extra for it if you don't specify that it's
for medical reasons. By having the mini-fridge, you can ask for a doggie
bag and bring it back to your room and keep it refrigerated. That's what I
do when I travel on business and also what we did down at Disney World back
in December...JR

I ate there March of 2003 and was very disappointed. I live about an hour
from memphis and occasionally go to Beale Street. Elvis Presley Memphis is
a pretty cool place to go to listen to music, but you're right, it's
expensive. To tell you the truth you'll get a better meal at the cafe at
Graceland. You guys might want to eat somewhere else around the Beale
Street area and then go in there for dessert for your grandkids. My kids
had the banana pudding and apple pie a la mode and it was good. They have a
little gift shop there too. To me one of the best places to eat in that
area is Spaghetti Warehouse and you'll get a great meal at a cheap price in
a neat atmosphere(old train station). I've taken a doggie bag home from
there many times, even before my surgery. If you insist on eating at Elvis'
you could probably get a kid's meal. Just tell them about your surgery -
most places will let you eat from child's menu if you tell them. I have a
dining out card that requests kid's menu due to small stomach capacity.
Don't stay in the hotel while your family goes out! There's too much to see
and do on Beale St. Consider taking the tour that shuttles you to Sun
Studio, Elvis Presley Memphis, and other cool sites. Enjoy your stay and
have fun - you deserve it!

Would your family be that offended if you took a few bites of their
different foods? That's what I do sometimes...saves money and waste.

To add to Kimberly's idea about sharing with the familly...most restaurants
don't mind bringing an extra salad plate. Maybe you could glean
"donations" from others at the table :>)
