Question:
Has anyone else had problems wearing their underwire bra 4 weeks post op.

When I try to wear my underwire bra it pushes right on the top of my incission. After a couple of hours I can't stand it. So I had to switch to a sports bra. It sure doesn't give much support.    — joann B. (posted on January 5, 2003)

Hi! Congrats on your surgery! I too was uncomfortable w/ my underwire bra for the first couple of months. I ended up wearing one of my nursing bra's for a while. I am now 4 months and 1 week out and wear my underwire everyday w/ no problem. I realize how much support you need when your boobs start looking and feeling like oranges in nylons. :o)Just give it a little more time. Best of luck to you, my dear!

My (cheap) solution to this was to get a zip tie from my husband's garage and zipped the center of my bra together- worked like a charm!

Don't despair! Before you know it you'll be needing new bras anyway so be comfortable for awhile. Luckily it's winter, perhaps you can get away with less support for awhile with bulkier/warmer clothes? My big problem was with underwear, the waistband on my lap incision. I had to switch the type I bought when I bought some smaller ones. It will get better real soon! - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -101lbs.

I had the SAME problem. Someone here gave some good advice. Take a scissors and make a small upside down V in the bottom of your bra between the two cups. By doing that it didnt touch my incision at all... :)

I too had the same problem. Unfortunately I had (and still have) huge boobs...so I went to the Avenue and bought these tank top things with a built in light support bra shelf deal. It didn't cut in like the underwire and it lightly supported my stomach...which after a 7in open sugery, felt great. They were less than $20 bucks. Good luck.

I bought some STERILE gauze pads and folded one up to fit right where my bra touched my incision, and that was enough cushion to stop the irritation. After I got my external staples removed, my incision was healed enough to withstand wearing my bra without any additional cushion. Hugs, Joy

I have taken a "mini pad" and put it upside down (sticky side against the bra)and soft side against my skin, and it works amazingly well! Very comfy.....love and light,

I HAD the same problem! I figured that I wouldn't be in that bra for long so I cut a v-shape out right at my incision and it was fine. I said HAD because I am 5 months post-op (today) and have lost over 10 inches from my chest. It will not be missed. I have decided, however, that I will be getting a breast lift done before I even consider a tummy tuck. They now hang to my belly button. Anyways, got a little off track there. Good luck to you, it only bother me for a month or so.
