Question:
I have two flights of stairs to go up at my house will this be painful?

I stayed on one floor for at least a week after my WLS surgery (open RNY)... the Doctor said I could occasionally do the stairs if necessary. When I did, I took it very slowly. I found that after two weeks, the stairs were not an issue. However, at 10 weeks post-op I developed a large incisional hernia. Now, the stairs are real chore!!

The hospital I was in had an occupational therapist see me before I was discharged. Open RNY 9-3-02, I explained I had 13 steps from basement to main floor then 13 more to second floor to my sons room and where our computer is. They had me walk the stairwell in the hospital brining one foot up and then the other to met it before going to next step. Under supervision of LPN and Occupational Therapist (just in case i fell) Needless to say, no problems, used the rail and they said I could do the stairs at home.

I was able to go up the LONG flight of stairs in my house as soon as I got home from my open RNY...its not a problem, but I did rely on the rail to help, my knees are not strong enough. I just made sure I was pulling with my arms, and not my trunk. You should be fine. Good luck!
