Question:
Pre Op diet and fitness reqiirments
Since I saw my surgeon, I have been eatting more than I was before I saw her.A friend scolded me for "Sabotaging" this surgery.I haven't totally convinced myself that this surgery is what I want. I am also afraid that I will not have control when I do have the surgery.I'm 95% sure I want it. My fear is that I have never succeeded in any attempt to loose weight. How will this be different? This is where my unsureness lies, not in that whether I want it! — Mary W. (posted on December 21, 2002)

How is eating what you want PRE-op sabatoging your surgery? If your doc
requires weight loss prior to surgery, then maybe that would be true, but
you didn't indicate that was the case, so...? Tell your friend you love
her but to mind her own business. I had a few nay-sayers pre-op too who
"reminded" me that I would still require will power, etc. to lose
wieght - that the surgery wasn't a magic bullet. Well duuuh! The
difference is your taste buds DO change post-op and you (or at least I)
really WANTED to change my eating habits after going thru all this. It's
not a diet, it's a complete change of life style. I wish I could explain
better how it's different but all I can think of to say is "it just IS
different". I've never been this successful in my life at WL!

The moment you decide 100% and that you have a surgery date schedule and
that your doctor does not require you to lose before the surgery. Feast.
Eat steak and anything your heart desires. Celebrate! I would still
strongly recommend you continue your exercise routine.

you will dffently have control after the surgery because you will have no
choice you can only eat so much and if you over eat you will get sick and
you dont want theat to happen good luck

Mary, I read your profile and it reads almost exactly like the weight loss
journal I began the day or two before surgery. I looked at food as my best
friend, like a lover who was bad for me, but always made me feel good. I am
also an emotional eater. I constantly battle my weight, even after surgery.
The good thing is that some restrictions are forced on me and I have no
choice. I wish there was a simple answer, I sure would like to have it. I
wish you well whatever you decide to do.
