Question:
Please explain difference from transected and non transected.

Also can a transected procedure be undone and can you get a staple line disruption with this procedure?    — Rebecca F. (posted on November 18, 2002)

In the transected procedure the upper portion of the stomach is stapled and cut free of the lower stomach. Sutures are placed along the "seam" of the pouch. Healing forms a tight, leak proof seal. It's my understanding that a staple line disruption is rare as a result and the transection can not be undone.

Linda's response below is mostly right; however, a completely transected stomach (where your stomach is now in 2 totally separate parts), can be undone/reversed. It isn't done often, but for certain cases/circumstances I've seen it done (or rather, undone).
