Question:
I have Aetna Open Choice PPO
Are there any up front costs before having the surgery?I know they should approve me, but what about any costs before? I really want to have this surgrey done and I hope I don't have to pay but if I do I do. — Susan K. (posted on October 25, 2002)

I had surgery in April. Aetna paid 80% so I am paying $4300.00 total after
the insurance paid their portion. My out-of-pocket maximum was $4000 plus
the hospital co-pay, this differs depending on your employer. Check your
benefit handbook--it will outline everything for you. As far as up front
costs--none for me. I know some surgeons change a fee outside of
insurance, check with your surgeon.

Aetna paid for my entire surgery (rny) and my revision to transected pouch.
The complete bill was $50,000 and I only paid my deductible which was
about $200. Aetna is great! I had the same thing you do...ppo etc.
