Question:
I keep reading that up to 2 years is the window of opportunity to reach goal
Are you saying that if we have not reached goal in the first 2 years that we can't reach it? I am 2 yrs post opt and have about 50 lbs to go and I have been at a plateau for the last 6 months and have not lost a pound. Is this it? I am a little discouraged and would appreciate any info out there. — Rebecca F. (posted on October 5, 2002)

In truth, I don't know for sure. I keep reading that here and my surgeon
told me the same thing. I'm still 10# short of my surgeon's goal, 30#
above my personal goal, and 40# above my "ideal weight". Like
you I'm getting very discouraged as I've been on a plateau for 4 months
(I'm 14 months post-op). I keep losing and regaining the same 5#!!!
Here's hoping we can beat the odds. I also read someone's profile on here
that starting losing again after a year's plateau. I think I'll go crazy if
it take's me another year!
All we can do is keep trying, good luck.

Hi, Rebecca: I think every case is individual but in my instance, my
weight loss started really kicking in at about 13-15 months post-op! I
really have no idea why (I'm not doing anything different, etc.). I've
lost about 40 lbs since my one year anniversary last January 25. I'm now
about 21 months post-op and STILL LOSING! I was 193 or so when I went to
my 12 month checkup (I'm 5'10"). I'm now 151 lbs (bmi 22). I started
out at 307 lbs (bmi 45). I had a lap BPD/DS (the most malapsorptive
surgery). I am beyond my personal goal (that was about 175 or so) and now
solidly in the Metropolitan Charts as being 'ideal'. Never thought I'd see
this day again! So, yes -- we CAN lose weight until 2 years (or perhaps
later?). I have been experiencing a MAJOR weight loss period starting from
13-15 months post-op until now. I think that we can ALWAYS lose weight if
we concentrate on it beyond the 'two year window' --- Get more exercise,
cut the calories, etc. -- just like everyone else. LOL All the best,
Teresa
