Question:
How long should you wait before contacting ins. co. for decision?
I received a copy of the letter sent to my insurance company (Carefirst BCBS in MD). Although I've read that some people are approved within days, how long should I wait before badgering the insurance company? — Cecelia A. (posted on September 3, 2002)

Give them a week, then call at least once a week till you have answers.
Make sure you get the persons name your talking to each time and keep a
journal of what they tell you so you have it to back you up should you need
it. GOOD LUCK!

I bugged my surgeons office every couple of days to make sure that the
papers had actually been sent (faxed) and then once that was confirmed, I
called the insurance company - about 2 or 3 days later to confirm they had
received. Good thing I had too, because some vital info had not been sent
and I would have been denied.
I don't think you should bug them constantly, but certainly cover your
bases to make sure that they have what they need and don't forget you
exist. Good luck to you!

I waited a total of one (1) day and called my insurance company (United
Healthcare). I was glad that I did because they said that they had not
received the letter from my doctor's office, so that gave me an excuse to
get a name and fax number of a direct person at the insurance company, and
I put them on hold and called my doctor's office, conferenced everyone
together and they faxed the letter again to the insurance company while we
were on the phone. I think I called back in two days or so and they had
approved me. Good luck to you and stay on their butts to make sure this
happens for you.

I work at an Insurance CO..Most Ins Co receive their mail and film it
before it actually gets handled. I would wait 7 days from date of letter.
Then call to be sure they recd it.As Lynda said check once a week every
week until you get your answer...Good Luck Nancy Poe
