Question:
When can I eat real food, and keep it down?
I am 4 weeks post op(lap rny). I can keep liquids and soft foods down. When I try foods that are a bit more solid. I cant seem to keep them down. It feels like a tug of war on wether or not to throw it up. It hurts on only 3 bites on anything. I am ready to eat substance I am tired of liquids and soft foods. When does the pain end? — nancy C. When is your scope scheduled? If your stoma is tightening down, a
dilitation is pretty easily done with your exam.

My docotr has all of his Post ops on liquids for 6-8 weeks, unless he
thinks they are ready to move into soft foods earlier. Then he only moves
them to soft foods at 6 weeks. Maybe your body is just not read yet. I
really was not able to eat solid foods until the 3rd month or so. If you
want something with substance, but soft, try some scrambled eggs with
cheese in it :)

At 4 weeks post op I could not handle more than a bite or two without
throwing up. I am now 6 weeks post op and doing much better with foods. I
still can't tolerate several things, but I have slowly been able to add
more things to my menu. Just remember to chew well and eat slow!! You
will be amazed as to how much difference a few weeks can make!! Give it
some time, don't panic...allow your body to heal and as time goes on you
will also be able to add more food to your diet. Good Luck!! Tonya

You are definitely a prime candidate for a scope. Strictures typically
occur around the 3 week time frame. I had 2 strictures, and after being
dilated at my 3 week mark, I was able to eat just about anything. I
started on salads and meats at 4 weeks, I was 'clear' to try it all at that
point.
