Question:
Please help with some food ideas~
I am 8 weeks post-op and I am having such a hard time eatting. I can eat anything and it doesn't make me sick. I know some would love this but I was looking forward to not being able to eat. (I am open rny.) I am not losing like I was hoping too. My doctors orders are to eat three 2 oz. meals a day of nothing but meat. I find this soooo hard. Also, I just realized that maybe I am hurting myself because I have been drinking mostly Gatorade and unsweetened tea. But now I am on decaf iced tea and sugar free Crystal Light. I have not started to drink Protein shakes like I should. Ok, my question~ I am going to start taking the vitamins and protein drinks the way it is suggested. I am starting to drink decaf and sugar feel. Now I need some food idea that I can replace with being able to eat anything (just not much of it). I want this to work sooo bad and I am needing some help here. Candi 325/292/150 6/7/02 — Candi B. (posted on August 3, 2002)

I understand your problem, I too had limited ideas on what to eat. I
started eating protein bars, and protein smoothies.
I would blend crushed ice, skim milk, strawberries, yogurt, pineapple
orange banana juice, protein powder and sweet n low to make delicious
shakes. High protein. calcium, potassium, low cal drinks. After making
these my wife and children are hooked on them!
Whenever I have a problem, slow weight loss or too many calories in a day,
I get back to the basics, Water, protein and exercise. I had 3 1/2 weeks of
pratically no weight loss and went "back to the basic" and lost
10 lbs in the last 3 weeks. I am now 4 months post op (lap RNY) and feel
and look great. I lost 82 lbs so far with 68 to go.
Just hang in there and keep your liquids and protein up and exercise as
much as you can. I gets to be a habit I look forward too every day.
Good luck!

Hi! My Dr gave me the same regime. I am 10 weeks post op and down 55lbs!! I
will give you some ideas what I eat but first i will tell you My Dr, Dr
Marema in Ft Lauderdale Fl says only protein untill you have lost 75% of
desired weight. Then you can start adding healthy carbs composed of
veggies, and some low sugar fruits. whole grains are the last to be added.
Also no protein shakes or b ars till later on.
Ok, so what I eat is alot of snow crab legs. I buy them frozen in the
store, steam up a few with melted butter and im in heaven! I also like
shrimp cocktail. Sauteed scallops go down real nice too. I love ribeye
steaks on the grill. (london broil got stuck i thought i was gonna
die!)tonight i made pork ribs with spices only, no sauce and that was
yummy. Turkey meatballs made with peppers and onions in tomato sauce stay
soft and juicy for days. I just dip it in a bit of sauce, the peppers and
onions are more for the flavor and for my family. Soft boiled eggs are a
nice change from scrambled. Meat from a taco bell taco is nice too. In my
area we have alot of latin restaurants that serve roasted pork or lechon.
That is delicious and goes down great and i love the vinegared onions
served with it.
hope this helps....the protein does get boring but it works great! let me
know what you think....Robyn in FL

I know how you feel. I can eat anything and not get sick too. But count
this as a blessing, I've heard that dumping is no fun at all. You have the
best weight loss tool in the whole world. Now all you need to do is make
good food choices. As a college student, I don't usually have the time or
the facilities to really cook. So I've found my new best friend in the
freezer isle. I buy Healthy Choice or Smart Ones microwavable dinners. I
love the way they taste. Some have a very good amount of protien in them.
So I usually have a protien bar or shake in the morning and eat a Healthy
Choice for lunch and dinner. It makes it easy on me. And being I can't eat
a whole dinner, my dog eats really well too =). When I do get to cook, I
eat lots of fish which is high in protien. I also steam some veggies. You
can get a million recipies off the web if you go to a search engine. Good
Luck to you. Oh, and never forget your daily water.
