Carrie, there is no way to tell you for sure that you WILL get to goal. I
can tell you that at 10 months out, I'm within 17 lbs. of my own goal of
160. I think that the more you weigh to start with, the faster you will
lose, at least in the beginning.
The thing to keep in mind is that this surgery is not something to be
played with -- it's a tool. All too often I read about people who say,
"Well, I can get in this much of xxx sugary food and this much xxx
fatty food without dumping..." -- so it seems that what they're trying
to do is see how far they can push the envelope without dumping, instead of
thinking about what foods will be healthiest for their bodies. If your main
concern is getting as much food as you possibly can, given the constraints
of the surgery, then you're not going to do so well. If, however, your main
concern is giving your body exactly what it needs, respecting it and not
overstuffing it, and making sure it gets lots of exercise, you'll do fine.
I heard one woman (on another board) say that she was worried about her
weight gain, and she thought the surgery had failed because she could now
eat an entire submarine sandwich. Someone else expressed surprise, and
asked how long it had taken her. "About 4.5 hours!" was the
answer. Well, yeah -- if you want to sit there and cram in as much food as
you can, bit by bit, over a long period of time -- rather than having six
small meals of no more than half an hour a piece -- then you're going to
"outsmart" your pouch. You're also going to gain weight.
So if you stick with your surgeon's guidelines, do what you're supposed to
do, and treat your body as your friend, then chances are you're going to
get to your goal, or at least within spitting distance of it. Good luck!

Well, I think you are doing great! I had my surgery 2 days before you and
have lost a mere 65 lbs. The rate really does depend on your weight. You
just keep on workin' it and you'll get there! In another 6 months, you'll
be so close you'll be looking for that plastic surgeon so you can wear that
lil' bitty bikini to the beach next memorial day! Really!

Hi Carrie,
I know that we have "talked" before. I just looked at your
profile photo- you are gorgeous! Congratulations on your tremendous
success so far. At 5'9, 370 pounds, you were exactly the size that I am
going into surgery (8/14/02). I pray that I will be as successful as you
have been. I'm 45 and my Doc wants me to get down to about 200 but I want
to get down to 170-160-150. WE CAN DO IT!!!! I hate to put pressure on
you but I'm going to be watching you and copying what you do so lead me and
inspire me! Please post more photos! All the best!
