Question:
Do you count your total weight loss or just the weight loss from the time you had wls

..............Hi Everyone, just out of curiousty how many of you lost weight before surgery, weather it be 50 pnds or 10? And, if you did lose weight prior to surgery, do you count that as part of your total weight loss or do you just count from the time you had your wls? For instance, I lost 7 pnds prior to surgery, but have lost 80.5 since the morning of surgery (12/18/01), making a grand total of 87.5. But do I still use the 80.5 as my weight loss? or the grand total? Thanx I hope to hear some feedback on this, I am curious regardless if you are pre op or post op, what would you do or have you done?    — Deanna Wise (posted on July 5, 2002)

ALL weight loss that you lost, you count. I found losing before surgery was the hardest! and I'm taking all the credit on that. I'm 2 years post op and I would of tried to eat more in the first year. I think my metabolism is low and I'm working to get it back up. Good Luck!

Hi, I use the weight that I have lost since the date of my surgery as I had lost about 5# or so before surgery, plus my consultation appointment (which is the weight the doc's office uses) was about 3 months before the actual surgery. Use whichever weight you're comfortable using. I, for one, prefer to use the "weight loss since WLS".

Hey!! It is soooo hard to lose weight, why deny yourself the fact that you lost it? Those 7 pounds you lost before count just as much as the 80 you have lost after. Dont ignore them!!! Unfortunatly Im one of the ones that ate everything under the sun once I found out that I would never be able to eat again and I gained 10 pounds pre surgery. I count them. : )

Icount from the day of surgery, but I gained weight before the surgery. That way I wouldn't have to lose 20lbs before I started counting ;)

I count my TOTAL loss! My highest was 319. I was around 314/315 the month BEFORE WLS. I lost around 10 pounds the month before my surgery althought I "Last Suppered" myself to death. lol So my official surgery weight was 305 although I was almost to my highest weight the month before. I count it all. After all, I wore it, and worked hard to get rid of it. So I'm not going to cheat myself out of the credit. ;)
