Question:
3 weeks post-op; jellyfish legs Do I need to call the doctor?
Read what the library had, but wondering if there is any more info... In the past two days, the steps are getting harder, rather than easier. Just got back from Wal Mart and my legs are so shakey and weak, I am really concerned. Took a two hour power nap; no improvement. Is this serious? I am taking all my vitamins... — Karen F. Hi,
I am just about four months post op and the same thing
happened to me. Actually, it still comes and goes somewhat.
I assumed it was from muscle deconditioning from laying down so much post
op (me not you). I live on the second floor of a two story walk up and some
days I had to pull myself up by the bannisters. I am still not sure what it
is from, but your speculation about vitamins definately went through my
mind, as well as the lesser calories and poor hydration (couldn't get the
fluids down in the recommended amount). I am getting a bit stronger on most
days, some days it is still hard but don't worry too much. Mention it to
the doc on your next visit, maybe he can shed some light on it for you.
Best wishes,

I am 14 weeks post op and had the same thing happen to me last weekend. I
found out it was because I was under hydrated. I wouldnt say I was
actually DEhydrated, but I definately needed more water. Once I started
putting more water in me that day things improved.

Remember we are losing muscle at a rapid pace..
and our Bodies are in Starvation Mode..
we are living on approx 200-500 calories for the first 2-3 months..
I remember barely being able to climb stairs..pulling myself up the hand
rail..
I remember trying to step up on a chair to change a light bulb I had
absolutely no strenght to do this
I was so weak
I am 19 months out and my strength is not back
this is my fault
If I had continued to walk and exercised I would feel so much better...
I can not even open a Jar anymore
We do the Harm to our bodies
No one else
So get out there and walk...
build muscle
remember the heart is a muscle also

I'm having the same thing myself. Long story, but I've been in and out of
hospital and ER since my surgery 3 weeks ago. I've been dehydrated big
time, and also had very, very low potassium. When I got re-hydrated, with
fluids + potassium, I got much better.
