Question:
I have not had surgery, but has anyone ever experienced sharp pains when drinking?
I was just wondering if anyone has ever experience sharp pains in the middle of the ribs when drinking something right after swallowing almost like something was stuck. This happens to me on occasion and is very painful. thanks — Michelle H. (posted on March 26, 2002)

I haven't had surgery yet either. This happens to me sometimes too, usually
when i'm in a hurry and gulp my drink. I think I get an air bubble and it
gets stuck somehow. It feels like I swalled a big ball that gets stuck in
the middle of my chest.

I had this same thing happen and my doctor told me that it was spasms in my
pouch. He told me to play around with the temprature of the water. Cold
water would get me every time but room temp worked better. I know some
people do better with hot liquids post op. I also found that if I drank
Crystal light I had no problem no matter the temprature...go figure.
Flavoring the water with just a splash of juice helps too. Don't
understand it but that's what helped me...
