Question:
When will I stop losing?
I am a little over a year post-op. My BMI is in the ideal range. I am wearing size 4-6. I am still losing and thought about 5 pounds ago that I would stop. I am 5'3" and today weigh 132. I have lost several pounds in the last month and think this is too much for this late in the game. My husband is very concerned and says I am looking too thin. My co-workers say I am starting to look anorexic. My brain is still telling me that I am overweght so I can't tell by looking in the mirror. I hope this doesn't make people mad with this question, but will this stop soon? I see my surgeon today, what questions should I ask him? — Janie C. (posted on March 12, 2002)

Hey we have the same sort of problem. I started at 313 now 189 and my PCP
friends and everyone else are cautioning me to not loose too much more. I
still see me fat, and fantasize about ways to keep it coming off. UNREAL me
UNDERWEIGHT?

If you want to put the brakes on your weight loss, eat more carbs! Are you
still eating the high protein diet? How about exercise? Moderation on both
of those and slowly add back carbs and fat to your diet. Stop adding when
you start to gain weight and bump back a little. That will be your
maintenance diet. Isn't this a great problem to have? I saw your pics and
you look great!

You may also want to check in with your surgeon or nutritionist, whomever
is working with you on what you eat. Although I don't have that enviable
(to me) problem yet, that is a question I asked my surgeon pre-op. He said
that in general they add more food (more meals), but the nutritionist will
work with you as to the specifics, if that happens.
The advantage to working with the nutritionist is that she/he can review
what you're eating and make healthful-for-you recommendations. Good luck!

Your weight sounds great for your height and not too skinny at all. You
probably look great. If you are concerned, though, just add a few more
carbs into your diet and drink a little with your meals. Works everytime
for me! (Like I need to stop losing weight - I wish!)
