Question:
Has pain from diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage) changed after WLS?

A lot of it depends on how long you've had the neuropathy. Nerve damage is
not reversible, but if you are in the early stages of it, getting your
blood sugars under control can help a lot and may make it go away
altogether.

My toes were starting to tingle and such, scared me to death. About a month
post op it gradually went away.

Kris, I had neuropathy prior to my WLS and I still have it now, 10 months
later. I thought it would go away and when I mentioned it to my surgeon he
said, "Did I tell you that?" I said, "Um...no...". He
told me that nerve damage was permanent but in some people the pain would
go away but since I'd been having pain from it for some time that I should
not expect it to go away.

I have MS related neuropathy that didn't begin until I was 3 days post-op.
It has gotten somewhat better but hasn't gone away yet. I'm still hopeful
that it may. So far though I don't know if the improvement is due to the
medication that I'm on or to the weight-loss, possible some of both things.
Good luck.
