Question:
What is my goal size?
I too heard that an average woman, at 5'4 140 pounds would wear a size 14. I tried to look at some clothes that were size 14- and was a little discouraged to find that that is still considered plus size! I am 5'4 and my goal weight is 130-140 pounds. Would I wear a size 14 or does what size I would wear depend on body build, etc. — [Anonymous] (posted on January 4, 2002)

I'm still pre-op, but I am 5'4". And when I weighed 175 lbs I was in
a size 14. So I have to imagine that at 140 I would be in an 8 or 10.

I definately don't think that a size 14 would be 140 pounds for you! I am
5'5" and now weigh 144 pounds, and just today I bought two pairs of
size 6 (imagine that!!!!) pants. Some thing that fit are an 8, but I
outgrew all my size 10's about a month or so ago. At 5'4" you will be
at least a size 8 I would think. I know it's hard to imagine right now,
cause I still think all clothes must be defective for me to wer a size 6,
but I was a size 14 when I weighed about 185 pounds. I guess it all depends
where you carry it as well. I for some starnge reason am very narrow in my
hips ( I was shaped completely opposite many moons ago when I was thin) and
carry more in my belly. Can't wait for that tummy tuck, although, that may
put me in a size 4 and that is way beyond the imagination. Just have fun on
the way down and plan to look for real good bargains caus the clothes won't
last very long, I started out at a size 22/24 and had my surgery in May.
Good luck!

Hi, I'm not at goal yet, but I too am 5'4 and when I weighed 140, which is
my goal now, I wore a size 8. And to add to this, my mother is 5'1, weighs
140 and wears an 8. I wear a 14-16 now and am 200 lbs, so I doubt at 140
you would wear a 14.

You would have to be about 3 feet tall if you weighed 140 and wore a size
14. I am only 5'3" but I weigh 147 and wear a size 8. I wore a
size 14 at 190. You can look forward to much smaller clothes. I started
at 469 and an 8x and now I weigh 146.5 and wear a size 8. Isn't this the
greatest thing?

I am 5'4 and weigh 120. I am in a size 4-6 at this point but, when I was
140 I was in a size 10 and at 158 a size 12. Hope this helps alleviate your
worries. I "do" however sincerely think it depends alot on body
size. When I was 20 and weighed 120, I was in a size 12 pants cause of my
big butt. I really really think we lose differently now with surgery but I
may be wrong. I lost every bit of my butt this time.

Clothing size depends mostly on body type. Not only whether you are short
or tall, but how you are shaped. Even at 227 lbs, I carried most of my
weight in my chest and belly. My legs and hips were slim. I could wear size
18 elastic waist slacks but wore a 3X top. Now I weigh 150 lbs and can wear
size 10(they are baggy in the hips and legs)elastic waist slacks and size L
and some M in tops. And now my legs look like toothpicks! And I am
seriously considering padded panties to fill out my jeans.Oh well, can't
have it all.

I am still pre-op and at 264 lbs I wear a size 22-24. It totally depends
on your body. I have decided to have a goal "clothes" size
rather than a weight goal. I would like to be a size 8, no matter what
that weight is. I have heard of people being 135 lbs and being in a size
4. All depends how you carry it. Good luck!

When I weighed 180 a long long time ago, I wore a 14. I don't think I ever
weighed 140 - passed right by it. I was told by my doctor that because
I've been heavy for so long, my bones are more dense in order to support
the extra weight, meaning that my bones are heavy. They will still be
heavy when I'm at goal (80lbs to go!), so it's conceivable that a person
who has had WLS can weigh 140lbs and wear a size 6. This is because your
body is small, but you bones are heavy. This is also the reason you should
make sure you take your calcium citrate, because you bones will eventually
adjust to the new weight, and without the calcium supplements, you risk
osteoperosis.

Well, let's see here. I worked with a woman who never had weight issues,
even after two babies. I swore up and down that there was NO WAY that she
could be a 12, I thought a 4 at the most, but low and behold, she was a 12.
A very good friend of mine is 5'8", and a 12 but she is very thin--I
would have put her in a 6-8. My sister is 5'5", over 200 lbs and can
wear anywhere from a 10 blouse (yes, really a 10) to a 2X. At 158 she was
too thin for her build--like she could wear a bikini with no rolls thin! It
really depends on your body type, bone mass, muscle mass, etc. I have
another friend who is 4'11", 175 lbs but can buy clothes at the GAP,
Nordstrom, etc. She said that if she got down to 150 she would be very
thing for her build. I hope this isn't too much rambling but people are
just build different!
