I too felt the same as you, but I promise it will pass. (you can read my
profile for all the details) I am 4 months out and I did have a few
complications, and thought to myself what have I done, but I promise it
gets better each day. I have lost 70 pounds and 34 inches so far and I am
able to eat now (that makes a big difference) If I can help you please
e-mail me. But like I said each day that passes it will get better! Love,
Laura

Deanna, I had an open SRVG on Dec. 11th. When I came in the door from the
hospital I burst into tears and squalled like a baby. I was back in my home
where all the eating had been done, back to the "scene of the
crime!" I was sore, tired, and miserable. I wailed to my husband
something like "What have I done to myself?" My poor hubby didn't
know what to do, he just held me until I stopped crying! But it was all
emotional. Within a few days I was feeling better and I am getting better
each day. I went back for my post-op visit to my surgeon and have lost 25
pounds! Never, ever would I have lost 25 pounds on my own! What you are
experiencing is normal, lots of us go through it. Try to keep your mind
focused on why you had the surgery, it WILL get better, I promise!!!

This feeling will pass. I had my surgery lap on 12/10/01. I went back to
work this weekend (12/29/01). I work 2 12 hour shifts on the weekend and
did great. I do remember recent days when I wondered if that would be
possible but it went just fine. Make sure you are staying well hydrated and
eating as well as you can. I got dry one day and it made a huge difference
in how poorly I felt. Best wishes.

I miss pigging out on food! As rediculous as that sounds I do miss being
able to eat till I am uncomfortable, however I am only 6 weeks post, down
50lbs and it gets better everyday. I havent had a cheesburger and fries yet
and for some strange reason havent craved it. I am going to miss going to
restaurants as it will be very impractible. I guess we are just never
satisfied no matter what good fortune we have!!

The first five weeks, I regretted having the surgery! Now, I am 6 months
out and -119 lbs. and very happy! Restaurants were always a big part of our
social life and they remain so. I can find SOMETHING to eat in any
restaurant we go to. I order the "to-go-box" when my order gets
there, so I can place a lot of food in there, so I don't overeat. But
first, I slide some off onto anybodys plate who wants some & we have
grown sons, so that comes easily. I never have been able to waste food
before, but if it makes it into the go-go box, I am able to toss it a day
or two later. I would eat it, but we always have too much food, so it is
not needed. As for at home, we still have full meals. I get a little of
this and a little of that. What has changed, for me, I will never go back
to eating rice, pasta & breads. Potatoes I will only have a plain baker
about twice/week. So no....I have not really missed pizza, etc. I have my
burgers plain with steamed veggies. Good luck to you.

Yes, i am probably the only person on here who will tell you that after 2
and a half years, I do regret having it. On the other hand, the good news
is that I am most likely very alone in that feeling. Most people would do
it again in a heartbeat. Me? No. Too many postop problems...wayyyy too
many. Your regret will pass as you see the pounds melting away. Everyone
has that feeling like "what the heck did I do" but after about a
month, it passes and you are well on your way to being thin. that in
itself makes things much better. I got like that too until my health
started failing. Just take it with a grain of salt, most people are so
happy they had this surgery. I am of the minority but you asked and I am
one of the few that will tell you this side of it. Most others who have
had problems like me, don't stay on here or don't write these things. I
wish you good luck and know that things will get better soon.

Barbara. I am very happy that you stay with AMOS and give your input. I
wish more with problems would do the same. Do the doctors have any idea
why most of us can absorb vitamins and you cannot. Have they determined
what went wrong. I feel so bad for you. Have you consulted for a second
opinion on whether this can be reversed.

Deanna, I am also in the minority. I wonder if I did the right thing. I had
my open RNY 10/24/01 and have lost 50 pounds. I feel like I could have done
that by myself (and of course I have MANY times)and I have sooo much more
to go. Now the bills are starting to pile up from the part my insurance
didn't cover (about $9000.00 so far) and I feel so weak most of the time
that I wonder if I will be able to work enough to pay off my debts.I guess
I am starting this year with a bad case of PMS(poor me syndrome). But, you
did ask, and I felt the need to say that right now I do have some regrets.
Best of luck to you, Diane
