Question:
I am barely 2 weeks post op, my questions is...
when i eat just after a few bites, i tend to get a pain in my chest, is this normal? is this telling me i have eaten to much cuz im still learning to distinguish between being full and satisfied and being still hungry...my head tells me im hungry becuz im so use to eaten more then a few bites so im just wanted to know the signs to look for when im suppose to be full ... and the doctor has his patients on a strict diet with just a few items to eat, is this like with every dr that does this surgery cuz i see people posting that they ate a cheese burger? — Deanna Wise (posted on December 29, 2001)

Hi Deanna, You and I had our surgery the same day. I bet the discomfort
you are feeling in your chest is the food making its way down your
esophagus. I am assuming that you are still on Full liquid like me, so I
can only assume you took too large or too fast a sip. I am also having to
learn to tell what's comfortable and what's FULL....I all can tell you is
that I ate a little too much soup the other day and felt uncomfortably full
for like 4 hrs. Now I don't estimate..I measure. 3/4 C of soup and then
wait...if I'm still hungry in an hour...I have a little more. As we both
had RNY I doubt our diet plans are THAT much different, but I too have read
people going home from the hospital on solids. In my opinion, either they
had a completely different surgery which wasnt as severe...like the
adjustable bands...because there is no cutting of the stomach ( I don't
think ) OR they have an inexperienced surgeon. Sometimes people take it
upon themselves to eat cheeseburgers newly post-op...against their doctor's
advice. I would say that's like playing with fire. It is VERY hard to be
on the full liquid stage...and I am having difficult moments
myself...wanting to chew something. But, I am deathly afraid of ending up
back on the operating table having my surgeon pick pieces of cheeseburger
out of my gut! LOL So, I am avoiding them for a few more weeks :) Hang in
there Deanna...let your new baby pouch heal nice and strong NOW so you can
avoid problems LATER. (((((HUGS))))) I know what you are feeling.
