Question:
Has anyone used dry shampoos while in the hospital??
And if so, do they really work and what kind did you use? I am scheduled for surgery January 9th. I have very oily hair and HAVE to wash it everyday. I am worried about having dirty hair in the hospital and not being able to shower the first....or second day. Is there a dry shampoo that really works? Thanks! — Kim B. (posted on December 20, 2001)

I got to shower on day two and I was comfortable enough to wash
my hair in the shower. Day 1. I had a sponge bath and the nurse
gave me a warm water rinse.

I did not use a dry shampoo but did use a waterless shampoo. My mother got
it at Walmart or somewhere like that. It is sort of like those waterless
handcleaners. It made my hair wet; it even "sudsed" up like
shampoo. Then you can set it or blow dry, or whatever---the suds towel out.
My hair felt really clean and looked like I had just had a shampoo. I had
to use it for a while because I had some complications and showering was
out for me---lots of sponge baths and so forth. Anyway, you might try that.
Good luck!!

I showered the next morning after surgery. My doctor isnsists that we take
a shower every morning before he makes rounds, so I usually had my shower
before 6AM which was great because the night staff wasn't nearly as busy as
the day people. I washed my hair every day.

Hi there! I just had surgery on Nov. 26th and i had a sponge bath the first
day after surgery. I had complications however and had to have another
surgery on the 28th and was in ICU for five days. frankly I didn't care how
i looked and i doubt you will either. The nurses did provide a shampoo that
was rinseless. It worked okay and the sponge baths made me feel better. I
however did not get into a shower until the 8th day i was in the hospital.
However, god willing you will not have the problems I did. I was in
hospital for a total of 2 weeks and it was not fun. I have also heard of
some of these shampoos at Wal-Mart. Good luck with your surgery and God
Bless!

My doctor REQUIRES you to shower EVERY DAY with Hipicleans (sp) soap and
has no problem with his patients washing their hair! Ask your doctor
before you go.....I think the shower really made me feel better...the soap
is available from the Pharmacist at Wal-Mart or your grocery store
pharmacy...about $8-$10 dollars for an 8oz bottle, mine lasted till I got
my staples out!

A nursing assistant "washed" my hair in the hospital using a dry
shampoo that was in a cap. She put the cap over my hair, massaged my head
and "Voila!" The product even had conditioner in it; my hair
looked great! As for a dry shampoo, Sebastian makes one that I use in a
pinch; it's called "Dry Clean Only" and comes in a pump bottle.

Last September I was in hospital with a central line. The nurse gave me a
shampoo shower cap to use then gave me some to take home since I was going
to have the central line in for a several days. I ended up not using them
all and plan on taking them with me when I have my surgery TOMORROW at a
different hospital.

This is what I am doing.... I am slowing decreasing the times I wash my
hair before surgery. I Washed it every other day, then every 3 days etc.
That way your scalp will slow down the natural oils produced. That way it
won't get too oily in the hospital. Also, Bumble & Bumble makes a dry
shampoo that actually has color in it. Much better than the old dryshampoos
that looked like you put white talcum powder on your head!
