I have not had the surgery yet, but my doctor (he is strictly a bariatric
surgeon) says he will be putting me on prenatal vitamins FOR LIFE. Other
values, such as Iron, Protein, Folate, and B-12 will be monitored through
blood work routinely during follow-up visits and supplements will be
suggested as needed. I don't think there is a need, unless instructed to
do so, to spend a lot of money on vitamins. Don't know about you, but the
less pills I have to take the better. God willing, I plan on getting a lot
of my vitamins from V-8 Splash, V-8 Juice, etc. You can talk with your
dietician on how to get the bulk of needed vitamins and minerals through
your diet. God Bless and Good Luck!

Your question was really bugging me after I answered and I looked it up in
the library of this website about chelated vitamins. You can do the same.
There are a lot of good answers posted there that may answer your question.
One even lists a website where they can be purchased. It sure has struck a
question for me to continue to talk with my surgeon about. Read below one
comment I found that rather disputes what I told you previously (there are
so many opinions) you can only do what is best for you and your physician:
"Q: Are Prenatal vitimans really ok?
A: My primary care physcian prescribed me some pre-natal vitamins about 1
week before I saw my surgeon for my first post surgery check up. I was so
thrilled cause those vitamins are good!! I remember how my hair and nails
grew, how good I felt when I took them while pregnant. I prodly told my
surgeon that I had a prescription for them when I saw him on my next visit.
He looked at me strange then announced that they would do me absolutely no
good, because of the malabsorbtion. He said I needed chelated vitamins,
that are wrapped in minerals, especially to be absorbed where others can't
be. I use Country-Life, and am doing fine. I gave the prenatal vitamins to
my girlfriend. Her nails are growing nicely. http://www.country-life.com/
Although any chelated vitamins will work well. GNC does not sell these, but
most other vitamin stores do."

well i looked it up in the dictionary and this is what it said: a compound
having a ring structure that usu. contains a metal ion held by coordinate
bonds
However, i see no difference in them than other vitimans. I will say that
most of the people I have spoken with do NOT take chelated vitimans but
many do order from Michele Curran (vitalady.com) she is in for the money
too OF COURSE but...SHE IS ALSO CONCERNED for US because she is a patient
herself...and I WOULD SAY SHE WANTS TO LIVE TO ENJOY WHAT SHE EARNS.
