Question:
Feeling numerous hunger pangs one week post-op!

Faithfully following the liquid-only phase and feeling hungry most of the day. (I thought there would be NO APPETITE post-op!) Could it be that the water I'm trying so hard to drink is washing out the nutrients before my "satisfaction" level hits??    — Linda P. (posted on August 8, 2001)

If you are taking in a lot of milk type products, the sugars in those are so very high that it will trigger wild & crazy hungers. You might want to find a protein product that mixes with water that has less than 3g of sugar per 30g of protein (roughly). Then you're getting no sugars and feeling MUCH more satisfied. The sugars just tell your body that you had a chance & nutrition & didn't get any, so it turns up the volume on the I NEED FOOD speaker.

Hello, the day I came home from the hospital I was able to "eat" every hour on the hour and it bothered me because I heard that you weren't supposed to have an appetite. I wouldn't say I had an appetite but I certainly was able to eat. But at the end of the day I realized I'd only had 3 1/2 c of liquid. I was drinking 2 oz at a time. By week 2 my appetite went away. Weird. I am 6 weeks post. I ordered protein samples to start on week 3 and found one I really liked then ordered it and found out that I had a lot of hunger pangs during the gap time where I had no protein drinks. When I got the protein my appetite went away again. Good luck!
