I got a card from my surgeon, it states I've have a RNY done, and requests
that I am able to order off the childrens menu.

Go to the database on this site and you will have a million answers to your
question (and most of the other questions asked today thus far) The
database is not used to it's fullest (heck, not used at all) by people as
it's too easy to just crowd out this feature with a question (that has been
asked ad infinitum) Research this site and you and others will have a
wealth of information and not constantly ask the same questions.

Tell me, Fran Gomez, who died and left you boss?????
The beauty of this board is that it is such a welcoming and open place.
That's an interesting question. I've often wished I could get a discount
on meals in restaurants...especially buffets. I eat so little and it's
often not possible to carry the leftovers home. I've never heard of any
such discount card. I sometimes order a small salad of soup of soup and
then
take a taste of this and that from boyfriend's plate. My friend often asks
if she can order from the children's menu...sometimes it's allowed....but
it's
too bland and kiddie for my tastes. Most of the time, I forget about
costs. I
order what I want and don't worry about what I'm leaving on the plate.

My goodness, have patience people. I have found that sometimes the info in
the database is outdated (Prior to Y2001), so new things may be available.
It doesn't hurt to get new opinions on things. I too was thankful for this
question being a preop. Sorry, not an answer, just my two cents.

Wow! I wish I knew that a few days ago! I will have to ask for a Dr. signed
card with the RNY info on it. I was really ticked off going out for the
first time this last week and was denied the kids meal because the waitress
didn't think it was appropriate. I reamed out the manager and told him
there's usually a reason an adult orders from the kids meal and it's not to
get a cheap dinner. I was so hurt and angry that I had to order something
that I couldn't really eat or didn't originally order. I will never eat
there again. I never thought about that before surgery, some people have
diets that are not terribly inconvenient, just that restaurant owners don't
want to or care to do that one little step to make the dining experience a
happy one. There will be more of us out there in the future and since food
is the center of most social events, we deserve the right to be with our
families and friends and enjoy our time at a restaurant, even if we don't
eat much!

Not a answer but I've read people getting bother by people not using the
data base. Just a fyi when I first got on this site I didnt even know for
a month or so that there was a data base let alone what you could look up.
Now I use it all the time. It takes a while for some people, to figure out
this site. Which is a GREAT SITE.

I have only been using this site for a few weeks now. I have thought of
this Q&A section as a friendly source of help. If people are getting
upset at the questions, this might not be the appropriate time to be
on-line. In answer to your question - the Doc who is doing my surgery has
a support group and we get a kid/senior meal card when we join. Ask your
Dr. or his assistant. Good Luck.

My doctor gives all of his patients a card that states that they have had
bypass surgery and to allow us to order smaller portions or order off the
kids menu... All of the resturants that I have used it at have allowed me
to order from the Kids menu...
