Question:
What's happening to me? I'm becoming repulsed by my food.

I'm almost 10 weeks post RNY (distal) and I'm presently on a "soft food diet". I also occassionly get a starving feeling but when I bring my food to my mouth, I feel sick to my stomach and repulsed. I eat stuff like meatball/meatloaf, canned tuna, turkey & ham, yogurt, cottage cheese, string (mozzerella), muenster, cheddar cheeses (LF), mashed potatoes, scrambled egg, plus I have my protein shakes. I still am trying to work on my water intake which I think would help keep away any between meal starving feeling. But where the food is concerned, I think it's the smell of the food that initially makes me sick. I force down 2 or 3 tiny bites so my body doesn't go into starvation mode. Of the foods listed, I usually have no problem with the string cheese or any other mild cheese. And I have no problem at all with the protein shakes; I'm getting in 60 grams/day (ProBlend 55 mixed in water). Maybe I should be happy that I don't want to, or can't eat. Is this normal? Maybe it's just that I'm sick & tired of this kind of food over & over?    — lalasmommy (posted on July 28, 2001)

Perhaps it is the meat. I am now one year post op and still have no desire for red meat. A bit of chicken and fish is okay, but beef, ham, pork, etc. make me sick. Especially meatloaf and meatballs. Try limiting red meat and see if you don't do better.

HI THERE. I AM CURRENTLY SEVEN MONTHS POST OP LAP RNY....I STILL HAVE DAYS WHERE THE THOUGHT OF FOOD IS GOOD UNTIL I TRY TO EAT AND THEN I AM TOTALLY TURNED OFF. I NOTICE THAT WHEN I AM STRESSED OR REALLY WORKED UP OVER SOMETHING THAT I CANNOT EAT. IF I DO FORCE MYSELF I ALWAYS GET SICK AND THROW IT UP. JUST BE PATIENT WITH YOUR NEW BODY. SO MANY CHANGES ARE STILL YET TO COME. MY TASTES ARE STILL CHANGING. NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SAY IT BUT I WANT MORE VEGGIES THAN MEAT THESE DAYS. I ALSO STILL TRY TO TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME. HOWEVER, IF THIS CONTINUES TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM YOU REALLY NEED TO CALL YOUR DOC'S OFFICE AND TALK TO ONE OF THE NURSES. THEY WILL LET YOU KNOW WEATHER OR NOT YOU HAVE CAUSE FOR CONCERN. AT 10 WEEKS OUT, I WAS STIL MOURNING MY FOOD. STRANGE HOW MENTALLY UNPREPAIRED I WAS. I NEVER IMAGINED THAT GIVING UP MY FOOD WOULD HAVE THE IMPACT ON ME THAT IT DID. HANG IN THERE IT GETS MUCH EASIER AND BETTER. BY THE WAY YOU ARE DOING EXCELLANY ON GETTING YOUR PROTIEN IN. AS LONG AS YOU CAN TOLERATE THE SHAKES AND TAKING YOUR VITAMINS, YOU SHOULD BE FINE. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU.......TONIA LAP RNY 12-27-00 DOWN 110LBS!!!!!!!!
