Question:
Can I still get pregnant even if i have been diagnosed with PCOS?

I haven't had a period in over a year and I am afraid that I might have PCOS. Can I still conceive with or without Infertility help?    — dainty (posted on July 26, 2001)

It may require a little more effort, but there are many sucessful pregnancies for women who have PCOS. The best way is to research just what PCOS is (just like you research your surgery) and know the possible treatments for our symptoms. Online- there are many resources, as well as books. Get a few, get smart about "PCOS" and do not rely on your Doctor to tell you- sometimes they do not even KNOW enough about this syndrome to help. It is a relatively "young" syndrome and the medical world is just starting to hear more and more about it. You have to help yourself as well. PCOS sucks, but it is manageable!

I was diagnosed in 1979 with PCOS after several years of infertility. I had been on clomid for over one year with no results (I was overweight at the time) I had just been referred to a specialist for pergonal treatment and while awaiting my period to start bloodwork - LOW AND BEHOLD - the last clomid tx worked. The Doc at that time told us that there wer 2 cures for PPCOS. ONE was surgery which could create adheasions and leave you with more complications, SECOND that the hormones of pregnancy resolve PCOS the catch 22 is getting pregnant. The THIRD which he did not mention at that time is losing weight. Fat stores the hormones necessary hormones. We were told that If we decided to have another child we would need to go through fertility treatments again. Guess what! Aaron followed Matt 17 months later because we saw no reason to be careful. We had 2 children before Matt was born. They were 8 & 10 at his birth. I was not overweight when they were conceived. We also had 2 more boys several years after Matt & Aaron. Don't panic. Get to a good GYN.

Did your Doc really say there were two 'cures' for PCOS? There are ways of manuovering and manipulating our symptoms, but you will always have this syndrome/disease. As far as I know, there is no cure!
